Donate to support dune conservation
Conserve Nassau is dedicated to advocating for an economically and environmentally sustainable Nassau County. Learn More about our work at Conserve Nassau
Our coastal dunes are not just beautiful natural features. Intact dunes play a vital role in protecting our maritime ecosystem, wildlife, and homes. Dune protection is a Conserve Nassau primary initiative.
This is your chance to show your commitment and be visible in sharing in our passion seeking solutions through action, education and contributions.
What are we doing for dune protection?
Work continuing from 2024:
Conserve Nassau authored a Dune Protection Plan and rationale for dune protection that we are promoting to strengthen dunes and storm protection in City and County ordinances.
We invested in low altitude, state-of-the-art LiDAR imagery of the American Beach coast and analyses of dune and coastline changes.
We provided planting input to Amelia Island residents as well as native and nonnative vine management guidelines.
Conserve Nassau offered dune expertise and assessments to various individuals and communities.
We advocated for land conservation.
Plans starting in 2025:
Conserve Nassau looks forward to expanding the coastal area LiDAR collection and analyses along Amelia Island.
Plant survey work on the dunes will help us assess the success of previous dune planting.
We will use the LiDAR analyses along with our plant survey observations and aerial imagery to plan and conduct coastal planting- particularly in the dunes.
We are planning research with planting different sections with varying vegetation density, size, species, sand fencing/no sand fencing, and vehicle traffic/no vehicle traffic options to quantify the economics of various dune growth options.
A generous grant from the Larsen Fund provides us with a great beginning for 2025. Your contributions through this page will determine how far we can go!
