Ocean Highway Port Authority Master Plan Meeting
6 PM April 12, 2022
Nassau County Commission Chambers, James S. Page Government Complex
96135 Nassau Place, Yulee FL 32097
Why you should be there
Through robust community involvement via meetings, emails to OHPA Commissioners, public comments and newspaper articles, we have a very different plan (in a good way) than what was originally put forth.
The good news thus far:
· The port will not seek expansion outside its current footprint
· Removal of adding a 2nd truck gate at Escambia
· Cruise ships are OUT
Conserve Nassau voices the following objections to the Port’s Master Plan:
· Required costly road improvements added to City and County budgets with no tax revenue received from the port.
· Increased dump or semi-truck traffic congestion with more than several hundred trucks arriving at once, grinding traffic to a halt on FDOT failed streets.
· The movement and storage of aggregates, cement or other cargos which migrate into the river or onto our beaches.
· Health-threatening air pollution generated by additional heavy truck traffic, and/or air pollution from cargos containing fine particulate matter such as cement within residential neighborhoods.
· Standing traffic congestion created from parked truck traffic awaiting admission to the port creating hazardous air pollution and inaccessibility to homes and businesses.
· Explosive cargos, such as fertilizers, located next to and within walking distance to schools for young children and residential neighborhoods. OHPA now opposes fertilizer imports, but fertilizer is still identified as an opportunity.
